A career to your end of days

Why do you not see more dental practice sales?  Seriously, how can people stand doing that job well into their seventies, every day, staring in at mouths full of cracked and blackened teeth, getting a face full of halitosis, knowing that they’re having to do this because someone can’t be bothered to brush their teeth properly or floss?

It just seems surprising that more people don’t walk into their surgery on their fortieth birthday, look on their appointments and say ‘No, that’s it, I never want to do another cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/articles/root-canal.html ever again, I’m out of here!’.  It does amaze me when I think about how many dentists in Dublin must be sixty plus, these people have been doing this for two thirds of their life.

I respect them for doing it of course, whether it’s because they feel they should be looking after people’s oral health or because they’re continuing their career so they can look after themselves and their families financially, it doesn’t seem like an easy job.

In some ways I have more respect for them than for doctors, if someone becomes a doctor then they know everyone’s going to look up to them, that they have a job which says they are important, they save lives and cure disease and so on.  But dentists don’t get the same treatment, yet they do it anyway, looking after people’s health and making their lives a little better.
